Temporary (Employer Sponsored)

The Skills in Demand (SID) visa (subclass 482) replaced the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa on December 7, 2024. It allows Australian employers to sponsor skilled workers from overseas when suitable Australian workers are unavailable. The visa offers improved pathways to permanent residence.

Duration

Up to 2-4 years depending on stream

Processing

Short-term: 75% in 36 days, 90% in 61 days | Medium-term: 75% in 33 days, 90% in 49 days

Application Fee

From AUD $1,455 (short-term) to $3,115 (medium-term/labour agreement) + $3,115 per adult dependent + $780 per child | Employer costs: $330 nomination + $420 sponsorship + SAF levy ($1,200-$1,800 per year)

Eligibility Requirements

Valid job offer from an approved Australian employer sponsor

Nominated occupation on the relevant skilled occupation list

At least 1 year of relevant full-time work experience (reduced from 2 years)

Skills assessment for certain occupations

English language proficiency (competent level or higher)

Meet salary threshold: Core Skills: AUD $73,150-$76,515; Specialist: AUD $135,000-$141,210

Meet health and character requirements

Valid passport and relevant qualifications
